Department of Mechanical Engineering is selected as industry-university cooperation laboratory of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Hanyang University's (President Lee Ki-jeong), School of Mechanical Engineering will lead the development of next-generation E-fuel engine combustion system technology in partnership with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries selected Hanyang University's Department of Mechanical Engineering's "Combustion Engine & Energy Conversion Laboratory (Advisory Professor Park Sung-wook)" as an industry-university cooperation laboratory and held a signboard hanging ceremony at Hanyang University's Seoul Campus on May 16. The next-generation E-fuel engine is a ship engine that uses carbon-neutral renewable synthetic fuels such as ammonia and methanol as its main fuel and is a key technology for next-generation eco-friendly ships, and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has the world's best technology. Hanyang University and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries have been conducting joint research in recent years to produce excellent joint research outcome in the fields of dual-fuel engine combustion optimization and ship fuel injection technology. Two organizations expects that this industry-university cooperation laboratory will activate joint research in the field of E-fuel engines, thus develop global leading technologies and foster excellent R&D personnel. Ahn Sung-chan, Director of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' Engine Research Institute, said, "HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is leading E-fuel engine technology by developing the world's first methanol engine for ships. We expect the industry-university cooperation Laboratory to be the cornerstone for joint research and foster of excellent R&D manpower."
