2021 THE Impact Rankings: HYU Ranked 6th in Industry¡¤Innovation and Infrastructure

The 2021 THE World University Impact Rankings report was announced. Hanyang University was ranked 6th in the 'Industry-Innovation and Infrastructure' area. 

The THE World University Impact Rankings report evaluates universities on how much they contribute to reaching the UN's 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs). The third 2021 evaluation evaluated 1115 universities from 94 countries, including 17 Korean universities. The evaluation competition was more intense in comparison to last year, where a total of 857 universities of 89 countries participated.

For the total rankings, The University of Manchester in the United Kingdom took 1st place. The University of Sydney, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University (RMIT), and La Trobe University were ranked 2nd~4th, while the Warren Centre for Advanced Engineering ranked 6th, helping universities in Australia take 4 out of the top 10 university places. The 5th rank was taken by Queen's University. Korean universities were not part of the top 10 ranks.

Two Korean universities placed within the top 100 of total rankings. Yonsei University reached 30th which meanns it has placed in the highest rank of all universities for two consecutive years, with Kyungpook National University following in the 54th rank. Hanyang University was ranked 91st last year but was not included in the top 100 this year.

In looking at the rankings for each area, Hanyang University scored 99.8 out of 100 on the "Industry-Innovation and Infrastructure" area, reaching the 6th rank. This score was only 0.2 points apart from universities that took first place together, which are the University of British Columbia and the University of Toronto in Canada, the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in Germany. Yonsei University ranked 9th place, and are included in the top 10 rankings along with Hanyang University.

 

When looking at other areas where Hanyang University reached within the top 100th ranks, Hanyang University ranked 61st in the 'Sustainable City and Habitat Construction' area, which is 25 ranks higher than last year. Also, in the 'Famine Cessation' area, Hanyang University ranked 92nd which is the same as last year, and 88th in 'High-Quality Job Creation and Economic Development, which is 39 ranks lower than last year. 

The same rankings were maintained in the areas of ¡â Poverty Eradication ¡âFamine Cessation ¡âHealth and High Quality Life ¡âHigh Quality Education, with other areas showing overall downward tendency.

 

An article in the "Maeil Economic Daily", which announced the ranking result on the 22nd, shared the words of Phil Betty, the editor-in-chief of THE. He said, "the results of this year show the integrity of institutions around the world that are striving for a sustainable world. Universities from 24 nations became part of the top 100 rankings."
