In the "2021 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU)" announced by Jiaotong University in Shanghai, China, Hanyang University was ranked as 201- 300th in the world and tied for 2nd in Korea, following last year.

ARWU is a world university evaluation for more than 1800 universities worldwide, started in 2003. The evaluation criteria are △Nobel prize/Fields Prize awards (30%) △Top paper citation researchers (20%) △Nature/Science journal publications △Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE)/Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) papers (20%) △Individual academic evaluations (10%).

The world's top-ranked university is Harvard University, followed by Stanford University, Cambridge University, MIT, and the University of California. In Korea, Seoul National University ranked 1st (world's 101-150th) and the 2nd place was jointly achieved by Hanyang University, KAIST, Korea University, Sungkyunkwan University, and Yonsei University.

Hanyang University, in particular, was ranked 22nd in the Instruments Science & Technology field. Also, it was ranked in high positions in several areas, such as 45th in Energy Science & Engineering, and 51-75th in Hospitality & Tourism Management.
