40 students will be selected from the end of this year

Hanyang University signed an MOU with SK hynix on April 11 to foster next-generation talent in the area of semiconductor. Under the contract, Hanyang University will establish a new Department of Semiconductor Engineering to nurture semiconductor professionals with SK hynix.

The CEO of SK hynix Kwak Noh-jeong, Hanyang University President Kim Woo-seung, and other major officials attended the signing ceremony, which was held online to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Hanyang University will newly establish the Department of Semiconductor Engineering in College of Engineering, selecting its first new students with the maximum number of 40 (occasional admission 24, Regular admission 16) at the end of this year. The students of the Department of Semiconductor Engineering are expected to become semiconductor professionals with expertise and practical skills after taking a customized curriculum that Hanyang University and SK hynix jointly developed.

For students of the department, Hanyang University and SK hynix supports tuitions  every semester and monthly academic subsidies. Students will get a job at SK hynix after graduation. In addition, students will be given chances to participate in laboratory internship program of SK hynix, field trips of Silicon Valley, overseas conferences, and research institutes in the U.S.

President Kim Woo-seung said, ¡°I am pleased to establish a semiconductor-related department which is considered a ¡®nail of horseshoe¡¯ in the 21st century.¡± He added, "We will put all of our effort with SK hynix to foster the best semiconductor talent that can support the semiconductor industry."

"We are delighted to cooperate with Hanyang University, which has greatly contributed to technological development through industry-academic education," said Kwak Noh-jeong, CEO of SK hynix. ¡°As demand for manpower is rapidly increasing in all fields of semiconductor industry due to the accelerated development of state-of-art technology, we hope that a lot of best semiconductors in the global stage comes out from Hanyang University.¡±
